Care Providers of Minnesota, the state's premier long-term care association, has awarded Amber Ward with a 2007 Care Providers of Minnesota Foundation Scholarship. The education scholarships, funded by the Care Providers of Minnesota Foundation, are designed to assist qualified persons who wish to further their education and practice within the field of long-term care.
Ward is employed at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. Each year, employees from long-term care facilities from across the state apply for scholarship funds. This year, over 90 applications were submitted, with 23 recipients receiving scholarships in the amount of $ 1,500 (totaling $34,500).
The Foundation has two funds for scholarships: Hagemeyer Scholarship Funds (focused primarily on nursing education) and Goldberg Scholarship Funds (focused on education other than nursing). Persons applying for the Care Providers of Minnesota Foundation scholarships must demonstrate that they are enrolled or accepted in an appropriate, accredited course of study leading to a career path in long-term care; and are currently employed by a long-term care facility, housing, or community member of Care Providers of Minnesota.
Ward was presented with the scholarship by Melissa Pearson on Nov. 6. According to Larry Penk, administrator at Inter-Faith Care Center, "Amber is one of those employees who quietly goes about doing her job. Whatever the task may be... there is never a doubt that the task is performed to perfection. She is an honest, reliable employee who meets our residents' every need. She is very kind and shows great empathy toward our residents."
