Wallace "Wally" Strand

Wallace "Wally" Strand, 97, of Cromwell entered into eternal rest Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was born Dec. 30, 1909, in Cromwell to John and Carolina (Johnson) Strand. Wally graduated from Cromwell High School in 1928.

Wallace "Wally" Strand, 97, of Cromwell entered into eternal rest Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was born Dec. 30, 1909, in Cromwell to John and Carolina (Johnson) Strand. Wally graduated from Cromwell High School in 1928. He farmed with his parents until 1938 at which time he took over the family farm. Wally married Lillian Koski on June 30, 1938. In addition to farming, Wally worked for the Carlton County Highway Department from 1958 until 1966, and was a sheet metal worker for various companies. Wally was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He was a past member of the board of directors of the Cromwell Coop, Cromwell Credit Union, CAP Oil Association, and Northland Funeral Home. He was a member of the Young Old Timers and was one of the original organizers of the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Department.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in July 1998, one brother and two sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Stanley (Pauline) of Cromwell and Willard (Sharyn) of St. Cloud; five grandchildren, Peter (Sharon) Strand of West St. Paul, Donna (Garry) Wood of Two Harbors, Jeffrey Strand of Queen Creek, Ariz., Julie (Dale) Stich of Avon, Minn., and Jana (Chris) Schuver of Sauk Rapids; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Jan. 4, in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery in Eagle Township.
