Wallace "Wally" Dahl Johanson, 84, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Bayshore Health Center in Duluth, Minn. He was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Cloquet to Wilhelm and Anna (Hultberg) Johanson and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1940. Wally was united in marriage to Lucille La Tulip in Washington D.C. on July 24, 1945. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Wally volunteered for the United States Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific from January 1943 to November 1945 as Gunners Mate on the U.S.S. Lyman. Wally worked for the Potlatch Corporation for over 35 years and retired as maintenance supervisor in 1982. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979, Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262, and the Potlatch Quarter Century Club. Wally had served on the Cloquet Police Commission, Cloquet City Council from 1956-1970, board of directors for Twin City Federal Credit Union; and was a past district Ccommander for the American Legion. He was very active in veterans and civic affairs.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Byron, Warren and Donald; and one sister, Alvina Sather.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; one son, David (Julie) Johanson; one daughter, Louwanna (Robert) Johnson; five grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Johnson, Gary (Amy) Johnson, Andrea Johnson, Aaron (Sherri) Johanson and Joelle Johanson; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Kjersti Johnson, James Johnson and Nashton Johanson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 17, from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet with full military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall. Inurnment services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Old Calvary Cemetery.
