Two Carlton County deputies were involved in separate vehicle crashes recently, according to Brian Belich, Carlton County undersheriff.
On Friday, Sept. 28, at 6:15 p.m. a deputy was driving a squad car on Highway 210 in Sawyer when it collided with another vehicle. The accident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, which is standard procedure. Both parties involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.
A deputy struck a bear while driving on I-35 Monday at 2:20 a.m. Deputy Bryce Bogenholm was driving near mile marker 237 when he hit the animal, which was already down on the road, according to Belich. The bear was dead at the scene and may have been dead when hit, according to Belich. Bogenholm was not injured and was able to drive the car away. The car had damage to the undercarriage.
