Two area motorcycle accidents resulted in fatalities over the past week.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Nathan M. Kahlstorf, 20, of Brookston was involved in a motorcycle-semi collision on Tuesday, July 24.
The incident report filed in the case reported Kahlstorf was driving his 1982 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Highway 2 at approximately 6:35 a.m. when a semi tractor trailer driven by Troy M. Birchem, 21, of Gilbert, Minn., traveling southbound on Canosia Road pulled out into the intersection at Highway 2.
Kahlstorf then reportedly hit the brakes of his motorcycle, which went down and slid broadside into the semi. He was reported dead at the scene. The driver of the semi truck had no apparent injuries as the result of the collision.
Responding to the accident were the Minnesota State Patrol, Hermantown Police Department, Proctor Police Department and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, July 26, a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Sylvio L. Boulanger, 73, of Knife River was traveling southbound along I-35 near County Road 6 at approximately 7:38 a.m. when his motorcycle went off the road into the median. During the skid, Boulanger laid the motorcycle down and then slid back onto the roadway. The road conditions were reported as wet at the time.
Responding to the scene of the accident were the Minnesota State Patrol and the Carlton County Sheriff's Office.
Boulanger was transported to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake and then flown to St. Mary's in Duluth, where he later died.
