To the Editor:

This letter is in regard to Lisa Baumann's "Order in the court?" editorial (11/13/08). So much of what she has written is personally hurtful and offensive to me, as to what she says occurred in the court hearing - and no, I wasn't there (for my own personal reasons). I don't see the point of this editorial other than to point out, according to her reasoning, that "taxpayers" were cheated out of seeing "justice" done - what "justice" would that be, according to her?

This reporter has her freedom of speech rights, so why didn't she go a step further and interview the people who said "surely contemptible words" while there were no court personnel present? What exactly did they say? According to her, the "wheels of justice" turned so slowly, that the taxpayer's (meaning herself, in fact?) wasted a day in court?

I see too that Baumann is now a self-appointed court psychologist in describing the defendant as "perhaps bored" or "thinking he could GET AWAY WITH IT" by "turning around to communicate with his friends/family members." This "didn't sit well" with the deputies and the SHERIFF HERSELF..." This offended her so much she just had to devote an editorial about it; perhaps at the next hearing she should recuse herself and go cover the school board hearing or some other newsworthy happening that is worth the time of the taxpayers.

My grandson is the only child of his mother who loves him very much and wants him to know this no matter what other persons say. I would very much appreciate that in any further remarks, Baumann please refrain from making snarky and judgmental remarks and have some compassion about his future and the feelings of his close family. Thank you very much for this opportunity to express my right to state my views, much as she has been given in her position as a reporter in a public forum such as this newspaper.
