The National Wild Turkey Federation introduces The Carlton County Cutter

The National Wild Turkey Federation Carlton County Cutters invites you to join their chapter committee in the planning of the first Hunting Heritage Banquet scheduled for March 29 at The Lost Isle.

The National Wild Turkey Federation Carlton County Cutters invites you to join their chapter committee in the planning of the first Hunting Heritage Banquet scheduled for March 29 at The Lost Isle.

The next organizational meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 15, at the Lost Isle Bar and Restaurant in Carlton. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. If you can attend or would like more information about the NWTF and this meeting, call Regional Director Joe Cannella (218) 327-8931.

The following are just some of the local chapter outcomes through the culmination of the annual Hunting Heritage Banquet:

  • Award one local scholarship each year to a graduating senior;
  • Provide annual donation of a conservation/science curriculum kit to local elementary school;
  • Provide annual supply of wildlife trees;
  • Provide Hunting Heritage Funds for sponsoring a youth event every year;
  • Provide Hunting Heritage Funds for sponsoring a women's event every year; and
  • Help support Wild Turkey conservation efforts and preservation of our hunting heritage.

Through cumulative banquet proceeds the Minnesota State Chapter Superfund accomplished the following in 2006:

  • Funding for the Minnesota DNR Wild Turkey Trap and Transport Program;
  • Over 60 annual Jake's events recruiting hundreds of youth to our hunting heritage;
  • The Wheelin' Sportsmen program provided disabled sportsmen and women with 16 events including turkey hunts, fishing trips and deer hunts;
  • Over 28 Women in the Outdoors events providing hands-on instruction in outdoor sports;
  • Habitat enhancement projects including tree planting, timber stand improvements as well as winter food plots;
  • Land acquisition in key turkey habitat supporting the purchase of over 500 acres this year alone;
  • Conservation education curriculum boxes for all 100 chapters to the school of their choice every year;
  • $25,000 in college scholarships in 2006;
  • Protected our hunting heritage through grants to the 4H shooting sports program and Wildlife Legislative Fund; and
  • Minnesota NWTF is the lead contributor of the National Archery in the Schools Program over $35,000 to date $10,000 more on deck for 2007!
