Sylvia H. M. Isaacson, 80, of Esko, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. She was born July 5, 1927, in Esko to Emil and Hilma Niemi. She was a 1945 graduate of Esko High School. On Oct. 14, 1950, Sylvia married Clarence "Ike" Isaacson in Esko. She worked for a number of years as a bookkeeper for Arrowhead Creamery and Kortie Hardware Store until retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where she was the former church organist and was a member of it's Ruth Circle. She was also a lifetime member of Finlandia Club. Sylvia was a volunteer at the Hospital Gift Shop since 1993. She enjoyed music, reading and bowling in the couples, women's and senior leagues.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Ike, in 1998; her brother, Ernest Niemi; and half-brother, Hjalmer Stohlberg.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois (Paul) Zwintscher of Henderson, Nev., and Doha, Qatar, and Donna (Jim) Oesterreich of Panama City, Fla.; sister, Elvi Maunula of Thunder Bay, Ontario; sister-in-law, Elsie Stohlberg of Cloquet; six grandchildren and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street in Cloquet. Visitation will continue Friday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
