Sylvester Joseph LaDuke, 65, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Mille Lacs Hospital in Onamia. Sylvester was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Cloquet to Benjamin and Lucy Rose (Coffey). He grew up in Cloquet and entered the United States Army in his late teens. After the service, he returned to Cloquet for a short time before moving to California where he remained for a number of years managing a gas station. He returned to Minnesota and began work as a merchant seaman on Lake Superior. He met his wife, Shirley, in Moose Lake and after their marriage they made Mora their home where they have been for the past 10 years. Sylvester enjoyed woodworking and making things with his hands. He loved fishing and did some vegetable and flower gardening.

Sylvester is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Norma Jean LaDuke, Donna Jean Dalen and Linda Jean LaDuke; brother, Bruce LaDuke; sisters, Julia Reynolds and Angelique Coffey; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from Thursday, April 12, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mora.
