Students attend National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair

Four Cloquet Middle School students and one high school student attended the National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair (NAISES), March 21-27, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Four Cloquet Middle School students and one high school student attended the National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair (NAISES), March 21-27, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Lenice Antell-White, Saydee Laines, Corey McCloskey and Elizabeth Rilea, along with Holly Pellerin from Fond du Lac Tribal and College, attended the fair.

Corey McCloskey, a seventh-grader mentored by Cynthia Edwardson, received a second place Grand Award in the category of Animal Science.

Elizabeth Rilea, a freshmen mentored by Cynthia Welsh, received a first place Grand Award in her category microbiology. Rilea's project was titled "The Use of Birch Bark to Control Mold Growth on Bread and Potatoes - Direct vs. Indirect Contact, Phase II."

This fair is sponsored by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society whose mission is to increase substantially the representation of American Indian and Alaskan Natives in engineering, science and other related technology disciplines. See their Web site at www.aises.org .
