With two strong runners returning, the season could be a fun one for the Cloquet girls cross country team. Back are Becca Sorenson and Amy Campbell to help lead the Jacks this season.
"Becca has been around a long time and has been extremely successful," said Cloquet coach Mike Bushey. "She looks forward to her senior year for both individual and team reasons and she wants to see the team be successful and wants to share the success she's been lucky enough to achieve with the younger runners."
Campbell proved to be a great addition to the program last year as a seventh-grader by qualifying for the state meet.
"We have a number of girls from last year who showed great improvement and look to them this year for continued improvement and success," explained Bushey. "We expect our girls to continue to get better through consistent hard work during the season and hopefully be competitive at the section meet."
One interesting thing that happened to the program this year was that the number of student-athletes showing up for practice is up over past years and that has Bushey excited.

"Our numbers are better this year than they have ever been and we consider this a great tribute to the kids who are always recruiting their friends to come out and join us," mentioned Bushey. "We have some talented younger kids as well as some seasoned veterans. The older kids show tremendous leadership for the younger runners."
Bushey is hoping the leadership will also allow some of the younger runners a chance to be successful while they gain time to mature throughout the season.
"With our younger kids we tend to be overly cautious," stated Bushey. "If the young kids can help the varsity team at the end of the year, it is a bonus. We want them to be around when they are older and better able to handle higher volume training and be even more successful."
