Last year was a dream season for the Wrenshall girls basketball team. The Wrens won their first section title and advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history.
This year, the Wrens open the season with a new coach and without a number of their graduated star players.
"Since being named coach I have had several people ask me about expectations," said Wrens head coach Steph Sklors. "They have asked how [I'm] going to manage after losing so many quality senior players."
The answer may lie in a few key returning players and how much some of the underclassmen can improve under a new coaching staff.
Sklors, the former head coach at AlBrook, will be joined by longtime assistant coach Jill Emery, along with Mary Grover.

"I have Mary coming back and I feel so fortunate to have her because she does so many things for the program," commented Sklors. "Jill and I have coached together since 1999 and she has 15 years of coaching at the varsity level. Her knowledge is limitless and she will help us accomplish our team goals."
Key losses from last year include Samantha and Danielle Anderson, Emma Grover, Wendy Bowman and Justine Dickinson.
Among returning players to watch include center Andrea Gould, Erin Laveau and Samantha Laveau, all seniors.
"I have three great seniors who will lead this youthful group," stated Sklors. "I can't guarantee any wins, but I can guarantee the girls will work hard, improve every game, learn the game of basketball, represent their school and community with pride and class and they will leave it all on the court."
