The Sixth Annual Hook 'n Slice on Ice is scheduled to take place Feb. 10. The Cloquet Rotary Club created Hook 'n Slice on Ice six years ago as a fund-raising event.

This unique event consists of sponsors setting up an 18-hole golf course on Chub Lake in Carlton for ticket holders to play through with their choice of golf equipment. The course is groomed by plowing snow into mounds with recycled Christmas trees used to line the fairways and tee boxes sponsored by local businesses.

Participants in the past consist of people of all ages playing the course with everything from a hockey stick and tennis ball to an actual golf club and golf ball. The Grand Casino Hinckley is this year's major sponsor and has supported the Hook 'n Slice on Ice as a major sponsor from its inception.

Funds from this year's event will be used toward scholarships given to students from Cloquet, Esko, and Carlton high schools. A few of the other projects supported by the Cloquet Rotary Club include donations to the Community Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Cloquet Educational Foundation, Friends of Animals, the Salvation Army, and adoption of Fauley Park in Cloquet.

Registration will take place beginning at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. tee time and noon for the 1 p.m. tee time on Saturday, Feb. 10, in front of the lake. Tickets are on sale now at $20 each and can be purchased at 3rd Base Bar in Carlton or Wells Fargo-Cloquet or Carlton, or by calling 1-800-625-4661.
