In the last horse race Saturday afternoon at the Carlton County Fair, Sears Pioneer and jockey Jacob Olesiak (wearing yellow) finishes first, followed by Hop Along with jockey Josh Molitor (wearing red). Designed to Run with jockey Michaela Cole came in third and last place in that race. Molitor also won the Jockey Award, which is given to the jockey who rode and had the most points during the fair. Earlier Saturday afternoon, jockey Dale Gohl had a stirrup break, which caused the saddle and Gohl to slide off the horse, Will Angeline Win. Will Angeline Win was fine, but Gohl was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake, then transferred to Duluth. He is going to be fine, race officials said, although he did have some injuries and is expected to take six to eight weeks to recover. On Sunday, Horrors of War and jockey Jordan Olesiak won the Carlton County Derby. Horrors of War is owned by the Mahtowa Mafia. It was the second year in a row the Mahtowa Mafia owners group has won the Derby.
