Richard "Dick" James Sherry, 83, of Round Lake, Tamarack, formerly of Cloquet, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin, Minn. Dick was born April 9, 1923, in Chicago, Ill., the son of John and Lillian Sherry. He served as a medic for the 3rd Army in Europe during World War II. On Jan. 23, 1945, Dick married his wife, Betty, in New York, N.Y. After the war he worked for Maytag in Newton, Iowa. In 1958 he moved his family to Cloquet because he enjoyed fishing and boating in Minnesota. He worked for Potlatch Corporation until 1982 when he retired and moved to his home on Round Lake near Tamarack. He was active in the Round Lake Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. Dick was also a longtime member of the Masons. He enjoyed model trains and traveling in his fifth-wheeler. Dick will be remembered by all for his good natured and friendly personality. Dick always had a smile and a kind word for others. Betty, his wife of 62 years, was the love of his life. His friends and family will miss him. "We love you, Dick."

Dick is survived by his wife, Betty Sherry; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Ellen Sherry; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancie and Tom Skare; five grandchildren, Emily, Melinda and Wesley Sherry, and Ian and Ethan Skare; and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Tobie.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 11, from 5-8 p.m. at the Round Lake Presbyterian Church. Visitation will resume Thursday, April 12, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service, also at Round Lake Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dallas Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Round Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the McGregor Larson-Deneen VFW Post.
