The juggernaut known as the Moose Lake-Willow River football team continues to punish local football teams! On Friday night, the Rebels, ranked No. 6 in Class AA in the state, rolled to a convincing 51-12 win over the Two Harbors Agates.

"Our offensive line has improved greatly from our first game against Pine City," said Rebel coach Dave Louzek. "We have seen all different kinds of defensive fronts designed to stop our running game and our players have adjusted well."

The line of Dan Anderson, Beau Abrahamson, Matt Gunderson, Erik Carlson, Chris Wasche, Brad Anderson and Taylor Davis have provided plenty of room for the Rebel running backs to run and they took advantage of the opportunity on Friday.

"A key to the line improvement is that they communicate so well with each other," Louzek mentioned. "Their great blocking has made for a lot of long touchdown runs and they have put together many impressive drives."

Nate Zuk, who ran for 194 yards on Friday, scored the lone first-quarter touchdown when he dashed in from 44 yards away to make it 6-0.

In the second quarter, Ethan Skog scored on a run of 35 yards and Zuk added another long run, this time from 63 yards out, to make it 22-0 at the break.

The second half was more of the same for the Rebels with great line play and solid running that resulted in four more scores and a 51-12 win.

"The weather on Friday dictated that the ball stay in our running backs' hands most of the game," stated Louzek. "We did attempt one pass, which was completed for 12 yards."

Skog added 109 yards on the ground for the Rebels with Moose Lake-Willow River rushing for 357 yards in the game.

"Our team is playing very well right now, but it is important that we keep improving," mentioned Louzek. "We have some tough games coming up."

On Thursday, the Rebels play at home against Braham and on Oct. 17 they will be at Esko.

ML-WR is 6-0 on the season.
