Queen of Peace students exceed national averages in Iowa Skills testing

Queen of Peace School in Cloquet completed standards testing in spring 2010, with some 25 students in grades three, four and five taking the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.

Queen of Peace School in Cloquet completed standards testing in spring 2010, with some 25 students in grades three, four and five taking the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.

The students were tested in reading, language, math, social studies and science.

With the national average at 50 percent for that particular testing format, Queen of Peace scored well above that average at all grade levels in all subjects.

Third-graders had their best showing in social studies, with students scoring at the 84th national percentile rank, with a grade equivalent of 5.5.

In grade four, Queen of Peace students had their strongest showing in language, scoring at the 89th national percentile for a grade equivalent rating of 8.1.

Queen of Peace fifth-graders scored highest in social studies, coming in at the 85th percentile, with a grade equivalent ranking of 9.0.

"I attribute the students' success to smaller classes and competent teachers," stated Sister Therese Gutting, principal. "We believe in taking students where they're at and challenging them in order to help them succeed."
