The Carlton County Board elected Commissioner Tom Proulx as its chair for 2011 during its annual meeting on Tuesday. Proulx has represented District 1 on the board since January 2009. Prior to that time, he served two terms on the Cloquet School Board and one term on the Cloquet City Council. He is also one of the co-founders of the Carlton County R.E.A.C.H. program and has been involved in many community and civic organizations. He works as a Carlton County juvenile probation officer.
Fifth-District Commissioner Ted Pihlman will serve as the board's vice chair as well as chair of the Committee of the Whole for 2011, and Commissioner Dick Brenner was elected vice chair of the Committee of the Whole.
Prior to the start of Tuesday's annual meeting, incoming commissioner Bob Olean was sworn in to represent District 4, a post held for the past 19 years by retiring Commissioner Gordon Aanerud.
In other organizational business for 2011, the board unanimously voted to maintain its current meeting schedule. Regular meetings of the board are held at 8:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and its adjourned sessions take place at 4 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month. Meetings of the Committee of the Whole, which consists of commissioners, department heads, and township and transportation representatives, take place at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the meeting room of the Carlton County Transportation Building on Old Highway 61.
The board elected to hold the meetings of the Carlton County Board of Equalization as well as the Board of Review and Equalization for unorganized townships on June 14 at 5 p.m. and June 27 at 3 p.m. in the courthouse board room. All of the meetings are open to the public.
The board accepted the low bid from the Arrowhead Leader of Moose Lake to publish the county's legal proceedings for 2011.
