Celebrate Memorial Day at the Carlton County Historical Society in Cloquet by attending a new exhibit opening reception from 1-3 p.m. Monday, May 30.
The new exhibit is called the “Power of Pins.” See how a variety of pins from Carlton County have the power to shape our lives. Pins fasten, show loyalty, identify, celebrate, decorate, persuade, and show achievement. Military personnel are honored in this exhibit with medals from the museum collection that tell the story of Carlton County service men and women’s individual accomplishments.
Memorial Day also marks the opening day of the Blue Stars Museums program at the museum. For the fifth year, the Carlton County Historical Society joins more than 2,000 museums across America designated as Blue Star Museums, offering free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.
All active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, are invited to bring their families to visit the CCHS museum in Cloquet free of charge from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This year museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are taking part in this initiative. If you are an active duty military family, or know of a family that can benefit from this initiative, spread the word about this unique opportunity.
Refreshments will be served during the exhibit reception. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12, and free admission for children under 5, Carlton County Historical Society members, active military personnel and their families. The museum is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 218-879-1938.
