Since early January, the Cloquet Tennis Association has been on a mission to raise enough money to install new, brighter lights at the high school tennis courts. Word spread quickly, and eventually Jack Hagen of Pinewood, Inc., got wind of the CTA's mission -- and wanted to help. Hagen is the head of work services at Pinewood, and one of their activities is creating candles.

Hagen saw a connection.

"I figured, 'What better way to raise money for new lights then to sell candles? Candles? Light? Perfect!' So we wanted to tie that into the tennis team's mission for new lights," said Hagen. "So I called my good friend (CTA member) Tom Proulx and we worked something out."

"We're really happy Jack and the rest of Pinewood came on board to help us out," said Proulx.

The crew at Pinewood, along with Proulx and CTA member Nick Lind, designed the candles to appropriately reflect the purple and white school colors of Cloquet Senior High. The lilac and/or vanilla-scented candles are made from 100 percent natural and botanical oil and soybean base.

"It's an all-Cloquet effort," said Hagen. "Pinewood gets to give back to the community, and hopefully the Cloquet Tennis Association will be better for it."
