A trio of Carlton County athletes shined in the Third Annual Midnight Sun-Midnight Run 5K Race in Duluth on Saturday night.
Former Cloquet-Esko-Carlton hockey standout and Carlton runner Liz Palkie took first place in the women's division in the race held at midnight on the Lakewalk in Duluth.
Palkie, who will be a senior at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, won the women's race with a time of 18 minutes 57 seconds, which was 50 seconds faster than runner-up Julia Curry of Woodbury, Minn. Curry runs for the St. Scholastica track and cross country teams.
The winner of the men's race was Dane Moreland of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., in a time of 15:25. Cloquet brothers Matt and Mike Kramer finished in second and third, respectively, with times of 15:45 and 15:47.
