Liz Palkie's college cross country running career ended in spectacular fashion a couple weeks ago at the NCAA Division II women's cross country championships in Slippery Rock, Penn. Palkie, a senior at University of Minnesota Duluth, helped lead the Bulldogs to an eighth place finish - the highest in school history in that event.

"It was an amazing event," said Palkie last week. "Having our team there was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. We were ranked 11th going into the event so the eighth-place finish was even higher than we expected."

The Bulldogs were led by freshman Morgan Place who took seventh place overall and was named All-American. Palkie was second for the Bulldogs with a 35th place finish in a field of 189.

"I am really happy with the way my cross country career went at UMD," stated Palkie who transferred to UMD after playing hockey at Minnesota. "I didn't reach all my goals, but I was close and I can't beat myself up for that. I am very happy that I am here running and wouldn't trade these last few years for anything."
