Wayne Thom was honored as the recipient of the Minnesota Trappers Association Education Award at the 2010 Minnesota Trappers Association Summer Convention in Barnum this past weekend. This is a President's Award, established this year by Shawn Johnson, MTA president. Wayne was nominated for the excellent trapping education classes he teaches and his willingness to work with both adults and kids to promote good conservation and stewardship in the trapping sport.
There will be an estate sale at Thelma Johnson's in rural Wright on the weekend of Aug. 20- 22. Thelma and her late husband, Walter, lived on this farm for over 60 years, so there will be lots of items of interest to folks in the area. The hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There will be an auction at Bill Freiermuth's home on Island Lake in Cromwell on Saturday, August 14, starting at 10:30 a.m. sharp.
The folks at Villa Vista are looking for swimming caps and older style swimming suits for their float for the Harvest Fest to be held in Cromwell Sept. 10-12. Just drop them off at the Villa or call Cherie Nyberg for more information.
There will be an All School Reunion organizational meeting at the Cromwell Country Inn on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. This will be to set up committees and set the date for next year's reunion. Please come out and support this event so it will be a complete success. Please bring your ideas and class lists so we can get invitations out to all former students. The Cromwell-Wright School will celebrate the 120th anniversary next year. All former students at any of the area rural schools, and anyone who attended Cromwell, Eagle Lake, Kalavala, or Wright School, are welcome to attend. We know that some folks didn't graduate, some moved away before graduation, or only attended for a year or two, but you are all welcome to attend. So, folks start looking for all the kids who were in your class from K-12. Call me at 218-357-2385 if you want to help but are unable to attend this meeting.

The Class of 1963 will meet for their annual class reunion at Harvest Fest in Cromwell at noon Saturday, Sept. 11. Please try to attend and let the other classmates know about this get-together.
The Cromwell-Wright Class of '77 is planning a "30-plus-3-year Reunion" on Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Fireside in McGregor. This is the weekend of Harvest Fest in Cromwell. I see that St. John's Lutheran Church in Wright has a new paint job. I'm sure it took a lot of hard work to get this done and a big thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.
I get the Community Connections newsletter from the Volunteer Services of Carlton County and thought I'd share an article that was in the last issue: "Tri-Community Food Shelf, originally named Bea's Tri-Community Food Shelf in honor of Bea Jauss, has been serving people in the western part of Carlton County and northeastern part of Aitkin County for over 15 years. Fifteen to 20 dedicated volunteers run and manage the operation of the food shelf, along with the MAC and NAPS Program. The food shelf is also governed by a volunteer board of directors. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks and are responsible for such things as unloading the delivery truck, stocking shelves, packing orders, carrying out orders and keeping the facility clean and organized. Most importantly, the volunteers have a passion for what they are doing and who they are serving. In these hard economic and stressful times, each client who walks through the Tri-Community Food Shelf doors will be made to feel welcome and comfortable by the volunteers. Volunteers of all ages, (such as the fourth-graders at Cromwell-Wright School who organized the March food drive, the high school students who provided muscle power to help move the food shelf to their new location at the Old Trolley Station Store in Cromwell and the RSVP volunteers who oversee the daily operation), the Tri-Community Food Shelf has something for everyone who is looking to share their time and talents."

School will resume Sept. 7 right after Labor Day, so we hope everyone has had a chance to get all the school shopping done and the kids ready for a new year. It always seems like summer goes by so fast, but just think, there is still more time off in the summer than most people get for vacation at their jobs.
