Carlton County departments located within the courthouse reopened to the public on Monday, June 22, according to a press release from the county coordinator's office.

Residents should call the department they plan to visit to see how the department is delivering services, the news release said. Visitors are encouraged to wear a face mask.

The county buildings closed to walk-in business March 23 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and switched to providing service virtually.

The Carlton County Assessor's Office and County Coordinator/Human Resources office are open, but allow only one person in the offices at a time. People will be able to wait in the hallway until they can go inside.

The Transfer Station is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with reduced hours on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m for Carlton County residents only. Staff will check for identification.

The Motor Vehicle and Drivers Licensing is by appointment only at this time. This includes renewing driver's licenses, vehicle/title transfers, registration renewals and DNR renewals. Tab renewals can either be mailed in or they can be dropped off at the Cloquet office.

Economic Development staff are continuing to work remotely from their homes, but are using phone or video calls to conduct business.

The Veterans Services office is closed to in-person interviews, but staff are answering phone calls. Anyone needing transportation to a VA Medical Center should call 218-204-0693.
