Due to positive COVID-19 cases within the schools and the rising Carlton County numbers, Moose Lake Community School told families Monday, Nov. 9, it will switch most of its students to distance learning.
According to a letter sent to families, the Minnesota Department of Health notified the district of six lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in members of the school community with exposure dates between Nov. 4-6.
"Contact tracing has resulted in a number of staff being quarantined for the next two weeks, causing a shortage of staffing," the letter said. "In addition, county and local case levels of COVID-19 are rising."
Starting Thursday, Nov. 12, grades 7-12 will transition to distance learning for all. Students are expected to attend each of their classes virtually via Zoom at the scheduled class time. The hybrid bell schedule will continue to be utilized during this time.
Starting Monday, Nov. 16, grades 3-6 will transition to distance learning with no school Nov. 16-17 to allow teachers to prepare for the transition. Distance learning will start Wednesday, Nov. 18. Parents are asked to look for more information provided by their child's teacher in the coming days.

Distance learning will continue at least through Dec. 4.
Grades pre-K-2 will continue with in-person learning Monday through Friday.
Another change to the schedule is students will now have the entire week of Thanksgiving off with Nov. 23-24 being instructional planning days for teachers.
