Slowly but surely, the Moose Lake Area boys hockey team is starting to show they are becoming a more competitive program. Despite a pair of losses last week, the Rebels appear to be a team on the way up in Class A competition.
Friday night, the Rebels dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to Pine City/Rush City despite outshooting the Dragons 30-24 for the game.
Danial Anderson gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead on a power play goal at 9:24 of the first period with an assist to Mike Unzen. However, the Dragons rebounded with a goal about a minute later when Brady Schumacher knocked in a shot to tie the game at 1-1.
The Dragons went up 4-1 in the second period on three unanswered goals by Nathan Wendorf, Adam Olson and Haakon Hanson with the last goal coming with just 27 seconds remaining in the period on a power play.
Trailing by three goals entering the final period, the Rebels came alive to score three goals of their own. Anderson scored from Dillon Holt and Unzen just 37 seconds into the period on a power play. The goal appeared to fire up the Rebels as they went on a strong attack which resulted in two more goals, the first by Rajean Carlson at 10:05 with Unzen and Holt assisting, and the second at 12:52 from Unzen with Dillon Peterson and Anderson picking up the assists.

The Dragons finally settled things when Terry Kraft knocked in a rebound at 2:05 of overtime with the assist going to Jeremy Friday.
Logan McAllister finished with 19 saves for the Rebels and James Fregelin made 26 saves for PC/RC.
- The Rebels took another heartbreaking loss Saturday when they dropped a 3-2 decision to Northern Lake. Another strong second period helped to spell doom for the Rebels as Northern Lake pumped in three goals in the second stanza.
Moose Lake Area took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a Derek Bartz goal at 16:40 with assists to Carlson and Unzen.
A goal by Jeremy Donovan and two goals by Phillip Stealin in the second period helped Northern Lakes gain a 3-1 lead after two periods.
Anderson pumped in a goal at the 37-second mark of the third period on the power play, but that was all the Rebels could muster the rest of the way against Northern Lake goalie Hayden Fletch, who finished with 26 saves.
McAllister had 28 saves for the Rebels in the game.
