Last Sunday's Ninth Annual Mojakka Cook-off at the Northeastern Grille and Bar featured more diners than chefs, but according to proprietor Bert Whittington, "everyone had plenty to eat and it was a success."
Nine contestants entered their prized mojakka recipes, vying for top honors in four different categories.
When all was said and done and the last spoonful of mojakka was tasted, here's who came out on top:
Beef - Nan Bay, Esko
Fish - Ken Waletzko, Askov

Potluck/Venison - Keith Bong, Cloquet
People's Choice - Linda Lyons, Cloquet (beef recipe)
Some 135 people attended this year's event, with proceeds going to the Friends of Animals Humane Society of Carlton County. Ticket proceeds are still coming in, FOA volunteer Edna Murto reported.
"We'll be back again next year for our 10th Annual Cook-off," said Whittington. "That should be a pretty big deal."
