Minnesota woman dies from fall while hiking in Oregon

Firefighters and ambulance personnel in Multnomah County, Oregon responded to a hiking fall that resulted in the death of a Carlos, Minnesota, woman on Friday, Aug. 19.

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — A Carlos, Minnesota, woman died after a 100-foot fall while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge east of Portland, Oregon, on Friday, Aug. 19.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office identified her as Jessica Warejoncas, 62, according to a news release.

She was hiking with a group of friends on the Multnomah Falls-Larch Mountain Trail when the fall happened around 1:15 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

Firefighters from Corbett, Oregon, responded and reached her about 1.3 miles from the trail head and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Authorities provided emotional support and mental health resources for those with Warejoncas at the time, the news release said.

The death is not considered suspicious, according to the Multnomah County authorities.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office assisted the medical examiner's office in Multnomah County in Portland with the death notification early Saturday morning, Aug. 20.
