BROOKLYN CENTER - A job fair for Minnesota veterans is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, 6155 Earle Brown Drive, Brooklyn Center, Minn.

With up to 100 employers who are eager to talk to veterans about a wide variety of job opportunities located throughout Minnesota, the job fair provides veterans the setting to meet with many employers at a single location, learn about different career options and even apply for jobs on the spot.

The employers represent a wide range of industries and are hiring for a variety of occupations from entry level to high skilled. Representatives from schools and veteran service agencies will also be available to discuss school options and other veteran services.

"Minnesota's Veterans Job Fair is one of more than 100 job fairs that will be held throughout the United States in the weeks surrounding Veterans' Day this year," said Dan McElroy, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. "We are proud and honored to host Minnesota's Veterans Job Fair and promote the national Hire Vets First campaign."

Additional features of the Minnesota Veterans Job Fair include two informational sessions for veterans:

At 12:30 p.m., a panel of employers from key industries throughout the state will address what employers look for in job candidates and answer questions of attending veterans. John Coffey, career specialist with Prototype Career Service and a decorated Vietnam veteran, will moderate this panel discussion.

At 2 p.m., Amy Lindgren and John Coffey from Prototype Career Service will present a 45-minute workshop titled "Get the Job: Applying Military Experience in the Civilian Workforce." This session will focus on strategies for identifying and matching the unique skills of military personnel with civilian jobs, and on effectively communicating with employers.

"Besides having the opportunity to discuss job openings with veteran-friendly employers, veterans will gain the opportunity to learn even more about how to fine tune their job search," said Jim Finley, Minnesota field operations manager of veteran's employment services.

Free admission, free parking and free sign language and Spanish interpreters will be available throughout the event. Directions and a complete list of participating employers is available at http://positivelyminnesota.com/events

The Minnesota Veterans Job Fair is hosted by the Veterans Employment Services unit of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, and is sponsored by CH Robinson Worldwide, Inc., Starkey, U.S. Bank, and UMC, Inc.
