Michael Joseph Jarski, 59, of Cloquet, formerly of New Town, N.D., passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born June 24, 1948, in Cloquet where he spent his early childhood, and then moved with his family to New Town where he graduated from high school in 1966. He enlisted and was a veteran of the United States Marine Air Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. Michael worked for Texaco Oil Company for 23 years in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming before returning to Cloquet. He is a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the Cloquet VFW, the New Town American Legion, the DAV and Holy Family Catholic Church. Mike was also on the committee to form the Fond du Lac Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Justin of Houston, Texas, and Brandee (Kevin) Kowalzyk of Atlanta, Ga.; step-children Roxanne, Brian and Donald Stillday, all of Ponemah, Minn., Donavan Stillday of Cloquet and Diane Stillday of Bemidji, Minn.; and one grandson on the way. Mike is also survived by his mother, Bernice Jarski of New Town; brothers and sister, Austin (Martha), Jerome and Mary Beth, all of New Town, and Tim (Felicia) of Parshall, N.D.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 5-8 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. in Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet. The visitation continued Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Interment was in New Holy Family Cemetery with honors accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
