Melvin R. Soukkala, 79, of Cloquet passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. He was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Cloquet to Edward and Vieno (Salmi) Soukkala. Melvin was a member of the Ironworkers Local #563 and 512 for many years. He is a veteran of the United States Army.
Melvin was preceded in death by his son, Scott, infant son Mark, and his brother, Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service to celebrate Melvin's life was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet. The family received friends following the service in the funeral home reception area for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Private family interment.
