Melvin Clarence Hyry, 57, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn. He was born Jan. 18, 1950, in Cloquet to Melvin and Phyllis (Warren) Hyry Sr. Melvin served with in United States Army from 1969-1973. After his duty, he returned and worked for the Conwed Corporation in Cloquet and then for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his younger years.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis, and his step-father, Robert Johnson.
He is survived by his father, Melvin Hyry Sr.; his wife, Mary; two step-sons, Russell (Laura) McMillen of Wrenshall , Minn., and Michael (Dori) McMillen of Cloquet; four step-daughters, Louann (John) Isaacson of Carlton, Ann (Chris) Olson of Cloquet, Sue (Dan) Oleary of Carlton, and Mary-Jo (Dan) McCorison of Duluth; four brothers, Robin (Diane) Hyry of Carlton, Bruce Johnson of Superior, Wis., Byron (Caroline) Johnson of Wrenshall, and Randy (Malissa) Johnson of Bruce, Wis.; six sisters, Karen Peterson of Burtrum, Minn., Evelyn Matthews of Burtrum, Roxanne Kelly of Duluth, Debbie Hyry of Floodwood, Minn., Maria (Stan) Wenneson of Carlton and Tammy (Joe) Stueber of Esko, Minn.; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 6, from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with full military honors presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 Honor Guard, followed by a reception in the fellowship room. Interment services were held at Silver Brook Cemetery in Wrenshall at 3:30 p.m.
