Waseca, MN - January 27, 2009 - Mediacom Communications is offering $100,000 in scholarship support for high school students who are seniors and plan to obtain further education. For the eighth consecutive year, as many as 100 high school seniors from throughout Iowa and surrounding states will be awarded Mediacom World Class Scholarships worth $1,000 each.
Recipients may use the financial awards to support educational expenses they will incur in the fall of 2009 as they pursue higher education or vocational training from any accredited post-secondary institution. All high schools in Mediacom-served communities received application materials the first week in January, and February 15 is the application deadline. Information and the brief application will also be found online: www.mediacomworldclass.com
Mediacom World Class Scholarships are available to students in Minnesota and nine other Midwestern states where Mediacom provides telecommunication services. Scholarship recipients in 2008 included six Minnesota students. In recent years, more than two dozen Minnesotans and more than 400 students overall have received the $1,000 scholarships.
"As a company, Mediacom makes it a priority to give back to communities in which we do business, and one of the best ways is to invest in promising students who we will need to lead our cities and state in future years," said Bill Jensen, Regional Vice President for Mediacom.
Students are encouraged to contact high school counselors for applications or contact Mediacom directly (see information below). The deadline for submitting completed applications is February 15, 2009.
