Margaret Linnea (Erickson) Opem, 83, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. She was born May 26, 1925, in Sandy Lake Township, Minn., to W.W. "Bill" and Linnea (Morberg) Erickson. Margaret was united in marriage...

Margaret Linnea (Erickson) Opem, 83, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. She was born May 26, 1925, in Sandy Lake Township, Minn., to W.W. "Bill" and Linnea (Morberg) Erickson. Margaret was united in marriage to A. Melvin Opem "Red" on June 1, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church in Carlton, Minn.

Margaret was a registered nurse, graduating in 1946 from St. John's in Red Wing, Minn., and practiced nursing for 40 years. She was a past Toastmistress and won several state awards for public speaking and was very involved with the grassroots North Dakota political process. Margaret enjoyed traveling, her church and her family. Most important to Margaret was that her family know Christ and His goodness and mercy.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, "Red".

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (the Rev. Timothy) Twamley of Grand Prairie, Texas; son, David Opem of California; grandson, Dr. Christian (Paulina) Twamley of Southlake, Texas; great-grandchildren, Ava and Aidan Twamley; sisters, Joyce (Mike) Anderson of New Mexico and Audrey (Oliver) Bogen of St. Paul; one niece, three nephews and one great-niece.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, Minn., with a burial service at Sandy Lake Cemetery in Blackhoof Township, Minn.
