Margaret Evelyn Johnson, 86, of Cloquet passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Blackhoof Township to Swedish immigrants Charles and Clare (Carlson) Olson, the fifth of seven children. Margaret attended school in the Carlton area. As a young adult she moved from the family farm to Cloquet and worked at Diamond Match through World War II until her marriage to longtime sweetheart Kenneth Johnson on Jan. 18, 1947. Margaret was a member of the VFW, Moose and the Fighting 69th Infantry auxiliaries. She was confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Blackhoof and later was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Margaret was devoted to her family and active in the lives of her three granddaughters and step-grandchildren. Her quiet strength and loving influence on all those around her will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linnea, and brothers Elmer and Clarence.

Margaret is survived by Kenneth, her husband of almost 60 years, and their two children Duane (Annette) and Diane (Steve) Parkhurst; granddaughters, Jessica, Elizabeth and Meghan Johnson; step-grandchildren, Michael and Amber Shaw; sisters, Edith (Jack) Parpala and Signe Hendrickson; brother, Herbert Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 2, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Handevidt Funeral Home, 900 Washington Avenue, Cloquet. Spring interment will be in Sandy Lake Cemetery, Blackhoof Township, Minn.
