Man drowns in Bob Lake

According to a press release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 6:19 p.m. Thursday April 6, authorities from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting that a 67-year-old male from Eden Prairie, Minn., hadn’t been in contact with his family for a period of time. The 67 year old male was at the family property around the Bob Lake area in Sawyer Township located in Carlton County. Authorities learned that a family friend had gone to check on the individual and couldn’t locate the male. The friend did find a canoe approximately 40 feet away from the dock, submerged. In the canoe was the missing male’s dog. Deputies did get to the canoe, but couldn’t locate the male around the immediate area and took the dog from the canoe. Carlton County then contacted the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad for assistance in searching for the male. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad arrived and began using their specialized underwater search equipment. Within a short period of time members of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Rescue Squad did locate the body of the 67-year-old male submerged in the lake. The name of the individual is pending until further family notification is made. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the search for the male by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Mahtowa Fire Department, Carlton Fire Department, Life Link, and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad.
