Kay Henninger is like many of the Carlton Area Chamber of Commerce members she spoke with on April 4 - she works hard, tracks her investments and takes pride in the product she produces. but unlike the typical local business, her most important asset is cows. Henninger is a dairy farmer an done of the people behind the wholesome dairy foods consumers enjoy.
Henninger owns and operates Henninger Dairy near Mahtowa. Along with her husband and their son, they milk 55 cows three times a day, every day. On the 780-acre farm, alfalfa, corn and mixed hay is also raised.
"We love what we do," said Henninger. "Dairy farmers across Minnesota differ in the number of cows they milk and production styles, but we all share a passion for producing high-quality, wholesome milk."
Henninger pointed out that caring for the land is an important priority. Because her family lives and works on the farm, she takes seriously her responsibility to protect land, water and air. In addition, cow comfort and health is carefully monitored, assisted by experts such as nutritionists and veterinarians. Because of this commitment at the dairy farm, people can count on wholesome dairy foods produced while sustaining the environment, she said.
