Loretta Florence Hepola, 79, of Brookston, Minn., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, in her home. She was born Aug. 23, 1928, in New York Mills, Minn., to Reuben and Sylvia Niemala. She attended her first four years of school in a one-room country school in New York Mills and graduated from Menahga High School in 1946. On March 3, 1951, Loretta married Arnold "Bo" Hepola in New York Mills. She worked as a business secretary for TeLex Corporation. Loretta was the Arrowhead Township treasurer for over 25 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookston and a member of the church council for over 15 years. Loretta was a devout follower of God and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for many decades. She was a superb cook and baker. Loretta won various acclaim for her baking and was featured in the Minneapolis Tribune for her baking and recipes. Loretta was a wonderful wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed working with children. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years.

Loretta is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bo; three sons, Thomas of St. Paul, Timothy (Karina) of Savage and Kim of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Betty Niemala of Brookston; grandchildren, Matthew, Tiffany, and Samantha Hepola.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookston. Visitation continued Tuesday, Oct. 30, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service, also in the church. Burial was in Arrowhead Cemetery in Arrowhead Township.
