CLOQUET — Incumbent Sen. Jason Rarick won his first full, four-year term for the Senate seat covering Carlton County and surrounding areas.
Rarick, R-Brook Park, defeated DFL challenger Michelle Boyechko by a margin of 60.89%-38.97% in the District 11 race, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State on Wednesday.
While senators typically receive four-year terms, Tuesday was actually the third time in less than four years that Rarick was on the ballot for the seat. The former state representative first won a special election to a partial term in February 2019, following it up in November 2020 with a victory for a two-year term that occurs each census year ahead of redistricting.
Rarick, 53, is a master electrician and self-employed contractor who has served in the Legislature since 2015, spending the last session as chair of the Senate Labor and Industry Policy. He has advocated for a number of business, energy and education initiatives, and been an outspoken critic of potential tax hikes and some COVID-19 measures implemented by DFL Gov. Tim Walz.
Boyechko, 40, raises cattle and pigs on a small family farm in Tamarack. Her campaign focused on issues including elder care, protecting abortion rights following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, and helping small- to middle-sized farms compete in an era of "Big Agriculture."

District 11 includes all of Carlton and Pine counties and the Fond du Lac Reservation, along with portions of St. Louis, Chisago and Kanabec counties.
