STURGEON LAKE — A house fire killed a boy early Monday morning, according to a news release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office received a 911 call regarding a house fire at 1:36 a.m. The caller stated that a boy was still inside the house. Fire departments from Moose Lake, Willow River, Sturgeon Lake and Finlayson responded and were able to locate the boy, who died at the scene. The boy's identity is withheld pending family notification.
Deputies called in additional resources from the Pine County investigators and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family who is affected by this tragedy," the sheriff's office said in the release.
