Local youth selected as 4-H state ambassador

Imagine being in high school and having the opportunity to represent more than 160,000 of your peers and work with thousands of people from across the state.

This year, Nick Prachar has this once-in-a-life time opportunity. Prachar is one of 28 outstanding youth who were selected by adults and their youth peers from across Minnesota to serve as a State 4-H Ambassador.

Ambassadors are the youth leaders and spokespeople for Minnesota 4-H. Being selected as an ambassador is the highest honor that a 4-H member can achieve.

Prachar is the son of Tim Prachar and lives in Willow River. Currently a senior at Willow River High School, Prachar has been a member of Carlton County 4-H for five years and has been active in the Mountain Climbers Club and the County 4-H Ambassadors.

Throughout this year, the State 4-H Ambassador team will spend many hours together organizing, planning and facilitating many different 4-H activities and events throughout the state for thousands of other youth leaders involved in Minnesota 4-H's programs.

During the 2007 Minnesota State Fair, they had the opportunity to spend two entire weeks serving as goodwill volunteers, where they greeted thousands of visitors and helped 4-H youth throughout their stay as fair exhibitors.

They also had opportunities to be interviewed by the media and energize audiences in the 4-H Building during the large assemblies that took place over several days of the fair.

As an ambassador, Prachar will spend many hours during the year working with other ambassadors in coordinating and facilitating several statewide events that will impact approximately 1,200 youth from across Minnesota by the end of June.

The primary goals of all ambassador events are to educate Minnesota youth about leadership, citizenship, and other lifelong skills, as well as meet new people from across Minnesota and have a lot of fun.
