Teachers from Moose Lake, Barnum, Esko, Cloquet, Wrenshall, McGregor, Willow River, Carlton and Cromwell will gather at Barnum High School Monday, Jan. 19, for a day of collaborative learning.

The day has been planned and organized by teachers, for teachers, with great support from area administrators. Teachers and other area professionals will formally present on key educational topics throughout the day. Educators will attend four hour-long breakout sessions, choosing from over 60 topic areas. In addition to valuable learning and insight, teachers will gain continuing education units, which is a state re-licensure requirement. Four areas have been added to re-licensure requirements, including positive behavioral support, children's mental health, reading, and accommodations and modifications for student who have special needs. Sessions will be offered to fulfill these requirements.

The day will also offer SAGA (subject-alike-grade-alike) sessions for all participants. This will be a time of sharing and collaborating with others who teach the same subject area or grade. The goal is for teachers to further their ideas, perspectives, knowledge and understanding for individual growth. Excitement is high for this professional day!

Numerous area businesses have contributed to this collaborative day. It goes without saying that it takes a community to educate our youth.
