Local taekwondo students bring home awards from world championships

Seventeen students from North Shore Taekwondo in Duluth and Cloquet Taekwondo in Cloquet earned a total of 22 awards at the World Chang Moo Kwan Taekwondo championships, which were held in Fargo, N.D.

Seventeen students from North Shore Taekwondo in Duluth and Cloquet Taekwondo in Cloquet earned a total of 22 awards at the World Chang Moo Kwan Taekwondo championships, which were held in Fargo, N.D.

The 17 students placed first, second or third in either sparring or forms competition. Five students earned first place in forms competition and three students earned first place in sparring competition. Four students - Tim Quinlan of Cloquet and Craig Jacobson, Geno Whiteman and Ashley Reardon of Duluth - placed in both forms and sparring. Reardon and Quinlan, both 15, placed first in both events.

The Chang Moo Kwan, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is one of the historical branches of Korean Taekwondo. It is affiliated with the Kukkiwon, the world Taekwondo headquarters. The tournament was hosted locally by the International Black Belt Federation (IBBF), one of the largest Taekwondo organizations in the United States. North Shore Taekwondo and Cloquet Taekwondo are affiliated with the IBBF and the Chang Moo Kwan.

Cloquet Taekwondo and North Shore Taekwondo offer superior instruction in the traditional martial arts of Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo. Separate classes are available for adults, women and youth.
