Not finished with your Christmas shopping yet? No need to panic; there are plenty of last-minute ideas from local businesses.

There are myriad businesses that offer gift certificates, from restaurants, movie theaters and coffee shops, to the less obvious, like County Seat Theater.

Cromwell's Lynn Odegaard likes movie passes for Premiere Theatres, while Lisa Granda likes to pamper someone special with a massage gift certificate.

Local car wash businesses offer gift certificates, as does the Oldenburg House in Carlton.

Residents also recommend L&M Supply gift certificates as a favorite option while others prefer to support new restaurants like NE BBQ.

"My personal choice is the Streetcar Kitchen and Pub," Cloquet resident Dave Harwig said. "If you spend $100 on gift cards, they give an extra $20 gift card and have some of the best food in the area."

For unique gift ideas, residents recommend Bergquist's Imports, Gateway Goods in Carlton or the Fig Tree on Highway 33 North in Cloquet.

Pine Journal workers shared their ideas also: Smartwool socks from Burger Shoes, a bottle of the receiver's favorite liquor, food gift baskets, jewelry from Buskala's or a mother/daughter mani/pedi are top favorite gift ideas that help support local businesses.

Other themed basket ideas are wine, cheese and crackers, a movie basket with DVDs, popcorn and candy, or even a pet-themed basket with toys, treats and a collar or grooming certificate.

Jay Cooke State Park offers several woodsy-type gift ideas or there is the always-popular Pine Journal gift subscription for a parent, adult child or grandparents who live out of the area but enjoy keeping up on local news.
