Schools and individuals who have yet to submit nominations for the Kemps "Extraordinary Students" award have a little more time to send in their entries. Kemps, Minnesota's leading dairy company, has announced that it is extending the deadline for accepting nominations from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15.

Adults age 18 years and older can nominate an outstanding student for the opportunity to be selected as a Kemps 2006-07 "Extraordinary Student." Three grand prize student winners - one each from elementary school, middle/junior high school and high school - will receive $5,000 in cash from Kemps for their schools. The winners' photos will also be featured on special edition Kemps plastic gallon milk labels. Additionally, 15 student runners-up will each earn $500 to donate to their schools. All winners will receive a year's supply of Kemps milk.

"We are proud this year to recognize students who are performing extraordinary volunteer acts on behalf of their schools, community, family or friends," said Rachel Kyllo, Kemps marketing vice president. "By honoring the contributions of these giving students, the Nickels for Schools 'Extraordinary Student' program illustrates Kemps' ongoing support for education and community spirit."

Students nominated for the Kemps "Extraordinary Student" recognition must attend a school that is enrolled in Kemps Nickels for Schools. Nomination essays should consist of 750 words or less that describe the student's volunteer efforts, which can encompass any facet of the student's life, and how the student's volunteer efforts make him/her a better student or the school or classroom a better place. Up to three supporting documents including photos, letters of gratitude or news articles can be submitted along with an essay nomination.
