Katharine Grace Maki, 78, of Esko died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, in her home. She was born July 10, 1928, in Cloquet to George A. and Mae Johnson. Katharine was a 1946 graduate of Esko High School. She married Raymond H. Maki on July 28, 1946 in Esko. Katharine worked at Nopeming Nursing Home as a dietary assistant for a number of years and as a receptionist at Puumala Clinic in Cloquet. She also served on the Board of Directors and as an office assistant for Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant grandson, Bernard Raymond Maslowski; and her sister, Nina Salo.
Katharine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raymond H. Maki of Esko; her three children, Peggy Meseroll, Mary (Jack) Maslowski and Scott Maki, all of Esko; her brother, Joe (Barbara) Johnson of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, Kristie Prachar (Bill Pera), Robby (Raynelle) Meseroll, Reece Meger, Molly Maslowski, Morgan and Torey Maki; two great-grandchildren, Polly and Preston Pera; and special friends, Millie Haataja, Norma Gerard and Jim Zezulka.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Jackie and Linda of St. Mary's Hospice for the care given to Katharine and a special thank you to Dr. Ricard Puumala for his many years of friendship and care.
A gathering of family and friends was held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the Fireside Room of Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. A private family burial took place in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery, Esko.
