Joanne Marie Gray, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at the LifePath Hospice House in Sun City Center, Fla. Born in Dickinson, N.D., on March 23, 1931, she was raised in Hebron, N.D., daughter of the late Walter and Irene Klick. A 1953 graduate of the University of North Dakota, she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and president of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. While attending UND she met her future husband, Zane E. Gray. They were married on Aug. 22, 1954, and resided in McIntosh, Biwabik and Cloquet, Minn., respectively, while raising six devoted sons. She retired to Haines City, Fla., in 1989 and to Sun City Center, Fla., in 2000. Joanne had a rewarding career as a hospital dietitian, pharmacy technician and homemaker. She was an avid pianist, poet and hockey fan, and enjoyed playing bridge, water aerobics and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Zane; her six sons, Kevin (Colleen) of White Bear Township, Minn., Mark (Florence) of Flower Mound, Texas, Collin (Erin) of Superior, Wis., Barton of St. Cloud, Minn., Jeffrey (Marci) of Cape Coral, Fla., and Corey (Kathy) of Carlton; a brother, Donald (Barbara) Klick of Vienna, Va; 15 wonderful grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends whom she loved dearly.
Joanne (Mom) will be deeply missed and remains in the hearts and memories of her loving family.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Sun City Funeral Home. Funeral services and interment will take place at a later date at Fort Snelling, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to LifePath Hospice, 3725 Upper Creek Drive, Ruskin, FL 33573.
