Racers faced a strong current on Sunday at the 12th annual St. Louis River Whitewater Rendezvous at Thomson Dam. After a torrential rain wiped out most of Saturday's practice session, racers faced swirling whitecaps on Sunday during the Buttercup Point Series event.
The Buttercup Point Series is a series of races held across the country each year with racers gaining points based on their finishes at each event.
Held just outside of Jay Cooke State Park, the 12th Annual St. Louis River Rendezvous is one of the most challenging courses racers will face this year.
In all, 30 racers took part in the event.
Duluthian Randy Carlson captured first place in the Men's Expert Class in the kayak division with Jonathon Day of Thunder Bay, Canada, taking second and fellow Canadian Kyle Palmer-Sharette finishing third. Day took first in the medium course event, while Scott Ewen of St. Cloud, Minn., won the short-course event.
