James "Jim" DeCaigny, 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Inter-Faith Health Care Center in Carlton. Jim was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Duluth, to Victor and Emelie (Puype) DeCaigny. Jim attended school through the 10th grade until he took over the fam...

James "Jim" DeCaigny, 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Inter-Faith Health Care Center in Carlton. Jim was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Duluth, to Victor and Emelie (Puype) DeCaigny. Jim attended school through the 10th grade until he took over the family farm in Wrenshall. He married Anna Mae Proulx in Cloquet on May 16, 1949. Jim worked for Northwest Paper Company as a mill worker and later as a custodian for Potlatch's offices in the west end of Cloquet. He was a member of the Cloquet Senior Center, Queen of Peace Church and the Knights of Columbus. Jim also enjoyed playing cribbage and pool at the Senior Center, Carlton Nursing Home and at the American Legion. He was a loyal family man and excellent role model for those lives that he touched.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae (Proulx); one son, Terry; four brothers, Emil, George, John and Ralph; two sisters, Martha Conley, and Mary Brown.

Jim is survived by his son, Bob (Peggy) of Cloquet; six daughters, Carol Forse of Cloquet, Pattie (Terry) Schleicher of Chisholm, Sue (Jim) Backe of Grand Rapids, Diane Bond of Cloquet, Sharon Tobias (Tom Lavan) of Cloquet, and Pam (Don) Boettcher of Gordon, Wis.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 11, from 5-7 p.m. with the rosary at 7 p.m. in Northland Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Burial was in New Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet.
