Area Christians are observing Holy Week this week with a variety of special services and events, and residents are invited and encouraged to attend.
A partial listing of local services includes:
- Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 102 Fourth Street, Cloquet, will celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m. A Celebration of the Lord's Passion is planned for Good Friday, April 6, at 12:30 p.m., with Stations of the Cross to begin at 3 p.m. The movie, "Passion of the Christ" will be shown Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Blessing of Easter Food will take place on Holy Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m., with the Easter Vigil beginning at 8:30 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will be celebrated on April 8 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
- Holy Family Catholic Church, 280 Reservation Road, Cloquet, will celebrate Mass on Easter Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
- The Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle, 1400 Washington Avenue, Cloquet, will host services of drama and music on Saturday, April 7, at 6 p.m. and Easter Sunday, April 8, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
- Grace Baptist Church, 601 14th Street, Cloquet, will host a "Walk to the Cross" Communion Service on Thursday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. The church will take part in the Community Good Friday service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church beginning at noon. Easter Sunday will kick off with breakfast from 7:30-8:30 a.m. as a mission fund raiser, followed by worship at 9 a.m.
- Bethel Lutheran Church, 29th and Washington, Cloquet, will host a soup supper on Maundy Thursday at 5:45 p.m., followed by worship at 6:30 p.m. A Good Friday service is set for 3:30 p.m. Easter Sunday will get under way with a Sunrise Service at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast from 8-9 a.m. Easter worship is set for 9 a.m.
- Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Avenue, Cloquet, will observe Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m., with music by the Fellowship Choir. The church will host a combined Good Friday service on April 6, beginning at 7 p.m. Choirs from Zion, Our Savior's Lutheran and Cloquet Presbyterian will sing, and the symbolic "stripping of the cross" will take place. Easter Sunday worship will take place at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with communion and special choir music.
- St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1705 Wilson, Cloquet, is planning Maundy Thursday worship for 6:30 p.m. on April 5. The congregation will host a Community Good Friday service beginning at noon on April 6. Easter worship led by the youth is set for 8 a.m., and the traditional Easter Sunday worship service is set for 10:30 a.m.
- Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 515 Skyline Drive, Cloquet, will host a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m. on April 5. Good Friday worship is set for 6:30 p.m. on April 6. Easter Sunday services are planned at 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., with breakfast served in between services by the youth.
- The Rock Worship Center, 1604 Selmser Avenue, Cloquet, will worship on Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon
- Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th Street and Doddridge, Cloquet, is planning a Maundy Thursday service for 7 p.m., including communion and the Passion Play. The congregations will take part in the Community Good Friday service at Zion Lutheran Church at 7 p.m., with Reverend Marley Danielson presenting the message. Easter Eve Vigil gets under way on Saturday at 7 p.m., with Reverend Rollie Bockbrader presenting the message. The service will include candlelight baptism and communion. Easter Morning worship is set for 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Breakfast will be served from 8:30-11 a.m.
- Cloquet Presbyterian Church, 47 Fourth Street, Cloquet, will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., joined by the Wrenshall and Carlton Presbyterian Churches. The congregation will take part in an Ecumenical Good Friday Service at Zion at 7 p.m. Worship on Easter Sunday is set for 10 a.m., with special music and communion. Homemade cupcakes will be served during the fellowship gathering following the service.
- Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth Street, Carlton, will worship at 6:30 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. The congregation will host an Ecumenical Good Friday Worship at noon on April 6. A Tenebrae Service of Darkness is set for that night at 6:30 p.m. The Easter Vigil will be on-going on Saturday. Easter Sunday worship is set for 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with breakfast served at 9:15 a.m.
- Salem Lutheran Church, 2702 First Street, Barnum, will worship at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. The church will participate in a Good Friday Ecumenical Service at Barnum Methodist Church on April 6 at 7 p.m. Easter Breakfast will be served on Easter Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and worship is set for 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion.
- Saint Francis Catholic Church, 509 Sunrise Drive, Carlton, will observe Holy Thursday on April 5 at 7 p.m. Good Friday Mass is set for April 6 at 7 p.m., and Easter Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
- Hope Lutheran Church, 204 Elm Street, Moose Lake, has scheduled a Maundy Thursday service for 7 p.m. Good Friday worship is set for 7 p.m., and the Easter Vigil service will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Easter Morning worship is planned for 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
- The Apostolic Lutheran Church, 25 Church Road, Esko, will worship on Maundy Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and again on Good Friday at 6:30 p.m. Easter morning worship will take place at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., with breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
- Saints Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, 1225 Mission Road, Sawyer, will celebrate Mass on Good Friday at 3 p.m., and the Easter Vigil will begin on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass will be celebrated on April 8 at 10 a.m.
